How Quickly Life Can Change

When I first started writing this blog. I was going to talk about the actual cost of living compared to our home country Canada. Something happened yesterday that completely changed my plans.

We received a phone call from Canada. My wife’s brother was found face down by his wife, unconscious. This is a call you do not want to receive, especially when you are close to your family and 0ver 5000km away.

This is the second time this has happened to my brother-in-law within 2 years. If you had read my previous blog — The Price You Pay For Living in Paradise. My brother and sister-in-law were 2 of the 3 family members we were expecting to visit in less than a week.

My brother-in-law was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a grapefruit-size blood clot in his lungs. This is the second one in the same location. They were able to stabilize him very quickly. When the doctor spoke to my sister in law he bluntly said, Your husband is very lucky to be alive right now, he narrowly escaped death. These words hit right home and bring everything about your life into reality.

When this happened, my brother-in-law had just retired at the age of 55 after working 30 years for the same company. His wife works a retail business with her father, which they co-own together. They had just started to make plans for the things they wanted to…
